View Full Version : CustomColor affect BeautyPass ? Bug ?

Hello all,
I have a little problem in Maya 2009.
I create a customColor Pass and it modifies my beauty Pass !
Look :

i have no time right now to test on your scene (i will do later)
but what is working for me is this:
-try pluging your texture directly in your input color of the 'write to color buffer'
-and switch to 'no operation' on your mental ray tab/frame buffer contribution of your blinn1
assumming that you have plugged this blinn1 outcolor to the 'evaluatin pass through' of your evaluation trigger ...

My beauty pass is changed.

I tested all possibility and it doesn't work.
I don't understand why.

Just put a half value in the Scale Factor of your material to get the beauty pass match exactly with the master beauty

i have created a new layer and deleted the beauty pass then rendered again your exactly scene (as maya automagically does a beauty pass - masterbeauty) and i get a perfect masterbeauty pass...

will try your tip later Rachid

well the difference is about 02 things Size file and control, with the scene that bigbossfr provided
The default MasterBeauty pass file size is about 287 Ko
and the Beauty Pass size is about 74 Ko so the difference is about 3.8% in size !!
Then you have choice to control a lot of thing with the beauty pass like the format type RGB or RGBA, Frame buffer Type 8-bit; 16-bit integer; 16-bit Float; 32-bit float and a lot parameters for Holding controlling transparency etc..etc.. witch you can't do with the MasterBeauty pass.

You are perfectly right and your trick is working great , just note that i was curious about the size difference btwn files and it's just because they have not the same color depth ;-)

One more thing, when you hit render, by default mental ray store all the data for each pass: Ambient + Beauty + Diffuse + reflection + refraction + specular + trabslucense + Incadescence in one single framebuffer called MasterBeauty; so all the pass are there rendered in one single file!

so MAsterBeauty = All the passes

Then you have an option "in Render Pass" to tell to mental ray to extract each pass individually and save them to disk according to the option you put in render pass (data type and format), yes to extract each pass from the masterbeauty not to render them separately!
so the MasterBeauty is big in size simply because is the result of all the pass you see in Pass List. In other words MAsterBeauty is the result of all the passes combined

of course there are others custom passes witch mental ray treat them individually like motion blur, motion vector, ambient occlusion, normal map, uv pass, etc..
