hi everyone! I created a night scene in maya and wanted to add fireflies in after effects. Nothing close up or anything just glowing green particles. still waiting for the night scene render to finish, but I just wanted to ask if anyone knows of a good plugin that can do such an effect. I was thinking trapcode particular for this. I worked with it before but still don't know too much about it. If anyone knows any effect that's better or a tutorial I could visit please let me know.

Foam, CC Ball Action or Trapcode Form would be easier. Basically you are just looking for some static swarm and those tools can create this with much less parameter tweaking with their built-in turbulent/ fractal fields. If you use Particular, it's of course still possible. Simply create a large box emitter and likewise, only use small velocities and lots of the Fractal Field.

you could also watch a few tutorials over at Video Copilot and see how he uses Particle Playground alot. It'd be super easy to just make some floating glowing spots. For example, this one of his kind has the look, although the motion isn't what you're looking for.
