This is my first sketch of the character. the clothes that are torn look terrible. he just isnt a pirate rightnow. i was watching the trailer from pirates of the carribbean, so i thought it would be ..."fun" to draw one and then color it. i know nothing about pirates, as you can see he is really plain, he has that scarf thing on him taken off. can people out there give me crit on what they like, what i should add, take away. im sure some of it may be hard to make out. his left arm is deteorating, along with his leg. that cape im sure should go also. please help out a fella in need. thanks. i would really like to add alot before i do my final drawing. really could use the crit, thanks.

The arm with the sword seems a bit long and same with the neck. If anything you should go back and rework the proportions before throwing down too many details. Overall id say its a good start though.

I agree with PseudoXavier. I think the torso is a bit too long.
It would help if you draw actionlines first for the rough proportions. When you have a rough sketch you can start
to building the character.

i have his neck long and skinny like that because i figured he would have nothing on him. but maybe its to long, i like that ill bringhis head down. also his arm is to long ill change that too thanks. i dont think his torso is to long though, its hard to tell but you can see his naval in that pic, and his shirt is going to be flapping around in the wind. any one have any ideas for his left arm, i dont like how it his holding the sword, it could be doing something else, if anyone has ideas. thanks

Here is my updated pic, i changed alot. when i color it i will add the zombie type skin. i couldnt draw it because my piece of paper was so small. i noticed i noticed! the legs, the should be brought down. i didnt realize that until i was getting actual detail done. so i said empreiembo!, ill just fix that in photoshop. im going to start coloring tonight maybe. im going to color it really dark, i wanted him to look like a french man, i was thinking of the movie the OTHERS. the father in that movie i like his face, i tried doing a face kinda like his. although when its colored i doubt you will be able to tell.

my scanned image is really big so i can add lots of detail, stuff i couldnt on paper. hopefully it wont turn out to be horrendous.

on this last one, you got a strange mix betwen shadings. like, very good gradient shading and than you have heavy outlines.
maybe you could let go of one of them.

but looks cool non the less.
specialy the first one!

i just started coloring this today. i have just got some rough details on his skin and coat that is all for now. i am just updating. when its all done it will have fine details but you know, just rough for now.

BTW, if anyone actually views this thread and is wondering why he is blue. that is my mask, it was just on while i saved and its blue because the layer over it is on multiply.

AAAAHHHH color!

when I was a kid, i never liked to color my drawings. I though it wasn't important. People just keep proving me wrong!

I think you getting it quite good. But it lack depth. maybe youd could go for something called "Distance Cue" ( I think)
the objectcs coloser ar brighter, and the ones fare, are darker.

in your drawing you could just go, not for objects, but for areas.
for example, the chest and the belly could be brighter than the arm pits and belly sides. the face could be righter that the neck.
the left arm could be just a little darker...

this would also help you getting some sort of separation, which is, in the end, depth

I guess this feedback comes a bit late, but I would thought more on the pose, it's not very dynamic, or not scary, depending on what you are going for.
It looks more like a cultivated pirate, kinda.
The colors look good though.

I really liked the first drawing, but check your silhouette on it, his left arm is in front of the body.

Thanks for the Alien feedback.

Cheers
