July just started, we will have to wait 3 more weeks to see.
I reserved my seat already, hope they provide seatbelts to prevent us from falling off the chairs after the surprise ;)
Last year, all I've got was a lunchbox with 3dsmax 5 logo on it.
I am using it to store my demo software CDs in it...

i'm thinking discreet will announce some news about 3ds max 6 [the 18 month cycle is coming up]. it could be anything...

-price drop
-complete rewrite of the core [please]
-and if above is correct, maybe a Linux version
-built in 2nd renderererer [brazil, mental ray, ???]
-new particles
-hair/fur
-...

could be anything. maybe even they will get rid of the 3ds max name and goto MAGMA [remember back when 4 was going to be called this? ...i like it]

well, just so you know, the "new particles" are already out, so you might as well cross that from your list :) it's available to those in the subscription program..

they could announce anything, that's why i'm preparing myself for something unclimatic [is that a word?].

but any words on max 6 and i'll be happy.

[new particles are out, sorry, forgot about that...]

Sure it does :)
It's the opposite of climatic; Not of, nor relating to, climate.

But I bet you meant unclimactic; Not relating to nor constituting a climax.

I hope Discreet does not hold back any punches. There is a thread on Highend3D ripping max. There are also various vague rumors of a rewrite but I wonder how that can be with Discreet so recently releasing that particle plugin (then again I know nothing about coding so...).

It is a shame that subds in MAX are so slow and that the coders could not come up with an EditablePoly modifier to stay within the stack workflow. I have a Max license I used to use before Lightwave 7.5 but I can't see myself upgrading to five or further until all issues of performance and stability have been addressed. Also, if MAX 6 is a Maya killer then keeping the present price might make sense, but if it is not...

I hope MAX makes some noise at Siggraph.

...And there are birds in the sky and fish in the sea... Nothing new, where else would you see a thread ripping max than on Highend3D? ;)

Rock stars know it, negative publicity is better than no publicity. :buttrock:

Good point Bobo :). Still, though Highend3D may or may not serve as an accurate microcosm of the larger 3D community, I think Discreet should be aware that MAX has some serious PR problems...again imo related to performance and stability. I don't want fancy features...I just want MAX to work and work fast

The suprise is.............

More bugs and more bugs, hihiihhhiiihh

It is the only program 3d which do not have a correct and powerful system of hair, clouds, fire, and of simulation of clothing!
It is serious: lightwave, Cinema 4D 8, Animation Master, Real 3D, They have all out of standard these functions!
Functions who works!
Havok is a game engine and is not very good for complex situations!

C-dilla has the dustbin or the delivery of the illegal program with the official version!!!
I have change my ATI drivers and......BOOM! the authorization code was bad!!!impossible to work in MAX5.1 I must wait 2 days!!!!

When I save........I reload the scene and............BOOM! file corrupt!! ....... and this very often!

With when "Brazil" into max? hihiihhiiih
To have a good software (but unstable!!!) it is necessary to have a lot of plugins and then the prize is close to Maya or XSI full version!
One only solution: to save to buy a other software (maya or XSI).

Discreet take their customers for mentally handicapped person ?

Sorry folks, indeed Bobo, i think i need vacations i figured it was July already when i first posted.. nevermind.

Still i did not want to start a rant 'bout Max or war of softwares, i was just being very curious - so please cut out ranting and bashing, it's rather pointless.
