I studied Yerks'a works for many days and tried to interpret some of his most common themes. The "style" to me is more about the ideas than the technique - his works range from near photo-realism to childlike pastels.
Instead of straight 3D rendering I decided to try the matte painting route for this piece for a more painterly result, since I just bought a tablet. This base for this piece is a 3D rendering, but not much of that original render is visible. After compositing I painted in a lot of the elements and fine-tuned all of the details by hand using a Wacom Intuos 3 tablet in PhotoShop. Hopefully I've captured some of the spirit of Master Yerka's "style."
