Hey finally sat down and started modeling for a hour or so. I want to push all quads on this one and really clean geometry. Just started on the cheek so it is messed up at the moment.

Looks like fun!

I'm surprised that little peon ogre isn't on any of the character sheets. (Unfortunately I can't recall the name, but I'm sure he's one of the ogres that actually did have a name.) He was one of my favorite sources of comic-relief on that show. "Oh duuuuukey? etc..."

Edit---
I just had to look a little bit further down the google listings... Toadie was his name. Nothing would bring out the Duke's scorn like when he does a "I told you so." after a villainous plan fails.

mnartgirl
03-15-2009, 06:33 AM
Hey it's kind of funny you mentioned Toadie, Pauljs75! I originally was going to do a scene with Zummi and one of the large Ogres but had a day or so ago decided to have Toadie in there instead. Zummi is going to be lifting him with one of his spells I think.

Here is a update! Hand and Feet are just roughed in finally had a couple of hours to work today happyness! http://i43.tinypic.com/29e69op.jpg

Hey here is my first color test. Got a bit stuck with Toadie so thought I would take a break and mock up a bit of color. I am actually fairly okay with it so far. I want to get the glasses looking better and look into creating some kind of velvet like shader for him.

Would love to hear what you guys are thinking.

Agree about the arms, the colors are nice ;-)

By the way what program are you use?

mnartgirl
03-22-2009, 01:02 AM
Hey thanks for the comments RasmusW looking at it some more I can see what you mean about his arms.

With your comment about the chin are you saying his muzzle needs to be pulled out a bit more, he does he need a bit more underneath his muzzle?

As far as his weight goes I agree I think he could put a a bit more poundage I think he needs to be a bit rounder in the tummy. Also he ears need to be a bit rounder.

I really appreciate the comments very helpful.

I am using Maya 7

03-22-2009, 06:17 AM
Hey here is a quick update with some tweaks to the model, I shortened the arms and pulled out the chin a bit also realized that the cape actually has two pieces so did that as well but it didn't show up in the render will have to fix that. Messed with his smile a bit more but still not quite feeling great about it.

I also tweaked the hat a bit, started tilting it just a bit to the left. I don't know how much I want to push it since it seems mainly to flop to the back and front.

Thanks Oberyn and Rofideo

How do you plan to do the posing?

mnartgirl
03-22-2009, 06:22 PM
Right now my plan is to finish up toadie I just started on him will post WIP soon. I want to have Zummi lifting Toadie with a spell so Toadie is upside down holding gummi bear juice.

At least that is the plan at the moment.

Thanks

Amanda

Kjello I wont tell Hee hee! I still love watching them!

Hello

I sugest make the hat straight, then you can twist it with the rigging (for animation)
But cause its a modeling challenge you can let it that way to avoid deformation troubles.

Let me see if I found a velvet shader...

See you.

Thats a cool scene.

Hey not a problem at all very helpful in fact. I see what your saying now, yeah that is something I can play with for sure.

Right now I am working on Toadie but when I get tired I will jump back over to Zummi.

I was going back and looking at my ref I think I need to make the medallion a bit bigger to while I am at it.

Thanks again for the help rasmusW

Hello Amanda

I found a nice settings for "velvet"

Its a blinn material, the base color are a little dark
Then change the specular color the same but litle more ligth
Finish change the settings like this.

Is easy and looks nice in render.

By the way this is not my tutorial
I found here long time ago, but dont remember the autors name

http://i675.photobucket.com/albums/vv114/rofideo/Terciopelorojoblinmaterial.jpg

About the ears from Toaddy
I found the easies way is "draw the borders" with the Create poligon tool,
This is easiest if you put a imageplane in the side view and just copy the borders
Estrude few times to inside
Then move some edge loops in and other out and Voila a nice ear.

Sorry but dont have a image at hand

mnartgirl
03-25-2009, 12:47 AM
Hey thanks Rofideo this is great! Huge help. As far as the ears go I hadn't really started doing anything but extrude a couple of edges. But I like your process thanks.

Yeah I am going to be modeling Toadie the little hench Ogre of the Duke's

What a crazy week. Haven't given up just had to side track for a bit. Modeled for a couple hours tonight worked more on toadie!
http://i43.tinypic.com/30acacp.jpghttp://i43.tinypic.com/104p0es.jpgThere is tweaking to be done and I want to figure something else out for his fur on his shoulders and his elbows and little outfit thingy eventually when I model it. If any one has ideas it would be much appreciated.

Background is coming along but isn't rendering well without textures so it will have to wait to be posted.

Here is a quick camera position test.

Have to fix up the symetry on Toadies face and ears, and place the gummi berry juice in his right hand. Then a quick fix on Zummi's hat and place his piece of paper in left hand. (Poor forgetful Zummie)

I think I am going to darken up Toadies shoulder hair as well but we'll see.

Crits welcome. Just a bit left to finish up for tomorrow.

Hey what is that post about not due till Friday?

Hey I know with the voting and stuff people may not have a chance for a bit but if anyone gets a second and feels like being critical I wouldn't mind some critics on my final. I know the rendering sucks and so does the lighting (Really need to brush up my skills)

Anywho if anyone has a minute and feels like a good ol' fashion critic session please do!

WyattHarris
04-18-2009, 09:24 PM
Well it looks like a comp of 2 different pictures, is it? I say that because there are shadows from the characters and none in the rest of the scene. I'm guessing the shadows are being cast from the magic spell. That would make sense but I would soften them up on everything else. Area lights do that in LW not sure what program your using. Other than that I think you did a good job matching the style of everything. My first impression was it reminded me of King's Quest which is a good match for Gummi Bears.

mnartgirl
04-18-2009, 09:57 PM
Actually it isn't two seperate scenes. Funny I was trying to get the silly shadows to work with the characters I didn't notice the rest of the geo wasn't projecting any! I painted the blueish background trees in but the rest is geometry.

Thanks soo much for your replies I really appreciate it.

Oh and I am in Maya 7.0
