View Full Version : Problems with hardware particle renders!
I have animated a missile which travels along a spline. A Particle trail has been added to it. However, for some reason my curve seems to be very jagged and this looks odd in the renders. (See image and highlighted area).
Is there anyway I can make this nice and smooth without messing up the animation...?
Oh, and any hints on making the trail better would be cool. It's my first attempt and although it looks ok, I'd like to make it better. So all comments and suggestions are very welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, try this.
I did a visual music animation in Maya.....oh ...GoD!! 3d animation.. visual..music...... not a good idea, unless you have worked at maya for a while.
BUT>....I had flying shapes, along motion paths, with particles too...and I had the same problem.
I believe the problem is, is that when there changes in the slope of the curve, especially quick changes, you get that jagged effect with the particles. This is because the emitter is changing direction too quickly and is not emitting enough particles before it gets to the next "point".
If you get increase the rate of the particles.....you should reach a limit of how high you need to go. The faster your emitter "missle" is moving along that path, the higher your rate will need to go. IF the increased rate is giving you unwanted results in the areas where you are NOT having problems, you can always just keyframe the rate.
Try that.......I hope it works.

Hi,
had this problem before....this is what did the trick for me:
Solvers > edit Oversampling and Cache Settings
increase the Over Samples until it looks okay enough.
This tells maya to check the emitter's position more times than once a frame.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
