I have basic ones like -

In the computer, to make something move you can use these techniques.
Keyframed Animation - human defines how it moves
Procedural Animation - computer defines how it moves (with user input of course)
Rotoscope or Motion Captured Animation
You could also break it down into what types of objects can be animated. Of course everything can be animated, but i think each of these categories require different techniques.
Characters/Thinking Objects
Props/Mindless Objects
Background Elements
Fire
Fluid
Smoke/Wind
Cloth
Hair
Particulate Matter
Lighting
Camera

Yep particles, or their physical equivelent such as dust, sand, snow, bubbles, etcetera. I was listing real world objects so I didn't want to confuse it with CG particles.
