Hello everyone,

I've been testing refractive mia_materials in Mental Ray for Maya 2008. I've come across and interesting anomaly for which I've never seen before and cannot resolve. Please view the image provided and post your comments.

What are your Ray depth settings for refraction and reflection? ...both on the shader and in your render settings.

Try Max Trace Depth = 10
With your material.
Advanced Refraction

Advanced Reflection - 0
Advanced Refraction - 0

Trying 10 at both now...

Sorry peeps, but no go. I tried my settings at both 10 and 30. This did not solve my problem. Edge distinction is still in the same location; refractions just changed in appearance.

Check the geometry.
Poly normals.. etc.

What kind of env map are you using?
HDRI?

The geo normals are fine, checked that a long time ago. I'm using an IBL with a texture ramp for my reflections. Very basic everyday IBL.

Hi
Try to check Use Max Distance in Advanced Reflection and Advanced Refraction, then measure your object with measure Tools and put that value in Max distance.
In your renderer you have a value of 20 in Max trace Depth
so put the same value in Max trace Depth in Advanced Reflection and Advanced Refraction of your material
