View Full Version : I Had A Dream....
Scott M C4D 07-04-2003, 12:54 AM Today,
I dreamt i was using a TFT Monitor on a new PC with Cinema 4D on it.
It was like a real life dream and i don't have a TFT monitor but i have used one in a PC shop for ADSL downloads.
I think they are pretty cool but still kinda pricey for the large screens and i think dead pixels would P*** me off if there was any.
Am wanting to buy a good flat screen 19" (18" Visible) CRT for a maximum of £200 UK pounds from somewhere or a good Athlon system like a 2500-3000 XP for around £800. Suggestions?
My current spec is : Athlon 750,320MB SDRam,20 Gig HD(less than 1000MB left),Ati Rage 128 GL SD 32MB Graphics card,15" CRT, Yamaha 16x10x40 CDrW.
It's not the first time i have dreamt about computers. I dreamt about getting an Atari ST and a Amiga when i was younger (10-12 years old).
dREAMS Eh?

its not only the dead pixels, its the fact that you have to run them at their highest resolution to get the best picture, I hate those things, its like using an oversized laptop complete with the horrible mouse trails that seem to plague even the most expensive models, lol :) sorry just hate those things and like ranting about them, it may be worth having a look at Dell's website, theres a flatscreen CRT across the office from me, veeery flat, not sure what the price tag was, but some companies sell refurbished models

was looking at two tablet PC's today (looking as I won't be able to buy one for anothe rmillenia most likely) I've been very happy with Crt's compared to lcd's, but those tablet pc's have very nice screens. and the fact you can draw right on them always an added bonus. some day, some day.

Give me a good LCD any day! No flickering, nice and crisp, bright, and no mouse trails. I don't know what models you've been looking at Squid, but the better models out now have no problems with fast motion--not even with high-speed video games.

what sort of price are we talking?
£200 on a new TFT will get you a pile of crap :)
try these guys Scott http://www.cosuk.com/ they sell refurbished gear, pretty much everything we buy here at the college comes from this company ( when I say refurbished or second hand, the stuff sometimes has slight scratches or discolouration, that's all)
For monitors: I just bougt a set of one 17 crt(main monitor) and one 17 tft (for menus and so). It didn't had to be a tft it was just to save some space. But if Your graphiccard could handle it I'll most defently would chose two 17 instead of one 19, will give you so much more workspace.

A CRT still has an advantage when it comes to exact colour rendition if
and only if
your monitor is perfectly calibrated
you work in a neutral environment with constant light that never changes in temperature
you always wear medium grey clothes etc etc
I have one 17" tft and one 19" crt. I want to sell the crt to buy a second tft.
I love them, and have no dead pixels.
