View Full Version : Character concept - crits wanted
MikkoK 07-04-2003, 12:05 AM Some game stuff I'm doing right now. I could use any comments, especially on lighting and coloring.
Needless to say, this is very much work-in-progress.

Thanks man. You're correct. I'll try and add some reflections or make the surface look less reflective.
C'mon people, any ideas how to push it further appreciated ;)
I'm going to render this a lot more, so I'd like to know any opinions you might have.

another crit: some places on his face are too dark, they dont look like a shade of the skin, almost like they are covered in oil

I agree with soulstorm, the face seems a bit muddy. Also the right hand from the viewer looks a bit like a flipper . Theres also something goofy about the perspective of his face. His mouth and sunglasses doesn't seem to line up with the mouth and ears correctly.
The beard and the bikersuit rocks! Keep working on it and please send more phases!!

hmm... well i dont' really have anything to critique about the painting itself that hasn't been said already... but compositionally speaking... i don't really like how the character is lined up dead center with the logo in the background... but that's just being nitpicky... great painting though.
Wow, nice colour and mood.
Personally, think that the background light can be brighter to bring out the darken commander. Because this can make the commander looks more...ermm... how to say tha.... godlike? or maybe more like a great leader. :) :)

this is just my technique but it might work here. you have a lot of green so you could really pop the character out by adding some red lighting from underneath or behind. not a lot, just enough to outline the form. even if you dont use red and stick with the yellow/green color scheme some subtle lighting from underneath or behind will round out the figure.
or, dont do that. it's a great pic.
