Lookin tight. As u said the textures need work. Have u modelled the headlights? it looks just like a texture. Try rendering with some hot boxes!
Cheers

The headlights are geometry, but not finalized. A closeup is attached below. Sorry, what do you mean by hot boxes?

Hot boxes is those big white planes that photographers use to create clean, crisp reflections.

You have a nice sense of fluidity in car design, and some very nice touches such as the little winglets on the bottom of the fron fender, GJ.

ethanwood: Can I get two of these....
I see your design style is different from others and them wanting to re-create cars that exist. Glad to see that you took this opportunity to create your vision. I am although having problems with it being too short for it's height. Your Concept not mine though...Textures or geometry on the tires maybe... Not sure if I saw them. And sweet that you put a driver in this car. Any plans for an interior??

Thanks for the compliment :). The "driver" is just a Poser model that I dropped in for scaling and interior modeling purposes and won't be in the finished product. Having said that, yes, there will be a full interior. The tires and wheels are another area that I'm still working on, so there is no geometry on the tires yet. The car is supposed to be a year 2020 model (it's a Mazda RX-7 if that matters). I thought about trends in automotive design, about how overhangs keep getting shorter and wheels keep getting bigger and went from there. The width, height and wheelbase are very similar to the last model RX-7, however the overall length is a bit shorter due to shorter overhangs. The wheels are 25 inch in front, 26 in the rear.

Well it works just fine for me.. BTW I'm buying it so you can autograph the dash....

Great looking car:) the render job is pretty good, but I think the idea about 'hot boxes' is a great idea. also, as you said, the pain needs a bit ow tweaking. other than that, looks great!
What modeling mehtod was this? Can you post a wireframe?

Did you use any reference or sketches or did you just model as you went?

Thats on SWEET concept! Love the lines on your car. I really like the way the wheels are pushed out to the corners and the hood contours. Lets see some more pics. :applause:

As you can see by my post count, I don't come to this site much and I've never seen your car before, so I hope you weren't insinuating anything. I don't really see many similarities other than color and camera angle anyway. Sorry, I just thought that was kind of a bold statement, maybe you didn't mean anything by it.

Spline modeled the basic shape of the car, then converted to poly for detailing. I'll try to post a wireframe later.

I just did a bunch of quick orthographic profile sketches and started from the one I liked most. So most of it is model by the seat of my pants :) Like I said, the car is a future Mazda RX-7, so I looked at a lot of pics of the latest RX-7 (mostly, I referenced the other RX-7 models and the RX-8 also) for inspiration. I used to own a 3rd gen RX-7 also, so I'm kinda partial to that car :)

Look forward to seeing the wire (hint hint)
Its similair to spirits car, but I don't see it as a copy or derivative. They just both have similair flow lines. but there's enough differences that make it original IMO. its tough when two peoples ideas are similair in nature.
anyways, nice work man and post a few larger renders with the paint job.
doesn't that contest deal with tuning in 2020?
no sure if you're supposed to create a concept car
the text says to tune an existing car with 2020's technology and style
so no concept cars at all i think

Hmm, I can't seem to get a pic of the wire under 20K to attach, so I'll have to find some other place to put it and add a link. You'll just have to wait :) I'll get some larger renders up too.
Not to beat a dead horse, but spirits car appears to be a mid engine, rear wheel drive car. The cab is pushed forward. The hood and windshield rise at the same angle. The lines of the car are flat and square: wheelwells, fenders, door, side window, mirror, wing, all square lines.
My car is front engine, rear drive. The cab is pushed way back. The windshield and hood rise at different angles. The lines on my car are very curvatious. The only really square shape on my car is the windshield, which happens to be the only round shape on spirits car. I still don't see any similarities other than the color. Maybe if I saw more pics of his car (the original thread is just showing x's).

No, the contest is to take an existing model, then make a 2020 version of it, tuner style. Interpret that how you will, but I think that it would be a pretty boring automotive design contest if the participants weren't allowed to design cars!
Anyone else wanna argue with me? ;)
i'm not sure so i did not start yet
as they refer to 2fast2furious i guess they want to see performance kits, body kits and stuff like that from 2020

Exactly... on a car from 2020. They mention F&F as an example as well as several other examples of tuning trends from the 30's, 60's, etc
Not many tuning companies now make body kits for 20 year old cars, I think it would be pretty hard to find a "new" body kit for a year 2000ish car in 2020. It just doesn't make sense. Not to mention you're supposed to write a paper on the design of the car. If the car is someone elses design, there's not going to be much to write.
"..will be to create the tuner cars of the year 2020.."
yes, i think you're right
ok, no time to waste

That is a sweet little buggy! I don't see a whole lot of similarities between yours and the other. The other car posted is a bit harder lined, yours is nice and curvy! The only thing I don't like is the headlights, an adjustment to the scale might help IMO.

its pretty cool (I especially like the design of the rear) but the wheels are just obnoxious :surprised, I mean come on, those tires would burst if it even touched the tinest pebble on the road :scream:
cool design tho, and nice renders!
Cheers,
