View Full Version : spot lights not working with MR daylight and skyportal
Hi, I was creating an interior scene for a kitchen using mental ray shader and light. I used a daylight system with mr Sun and mr Sky + physical sky, and Skyportal on my main openings, enabling ofcourse GI and FG, no caustics and no effects. After the natural like sun light was OK in the scene i started putting a couple of target spots, and none of them were even slightly visible in the rendered scene. I tried raising the multiplier to the sky and nothing was changed. I'm new to the skyportal technique and all similar interior lighting systems and techniques. If you have an answer to this dilemma please reply as soon as possible, thank you...

Try to use only Photometric light if you are using exposure. The default ones don't work really well if you have MR Photo Exposure on. But, if you want to use old lights make sure you set intensity really high like arround 1500.
So you're saying that this has to do with mr exposure only, not anything else?

Yes, like when you shoot an outdoor picture on a sunny day, you can't tell if some bulb light it's on because it's way too weak compared to the sun light. That's why you would need a really strong light to show in a shot with an exposure adjusted to sunlight.
