View Full Version : HARDCORE MODELING!: 80's Cartoon: Voltron Model
dangermouse 02-26-2009, 12:53 AM Just reserving my spot.
Having trouble deciding whether to do the combined robot, or just one of the tigers... May focus on one tiger so I have more time. Hmm...

Ill def be watching this one as voltron was one of my all time favorite shows as a kid. As far as making Voltron or just the tigers...why not just make 1 tiger body with 4-5 different textures (the heads of the tigers and the chest/shoulder designs between them were the biggest diffs from what i remember) and then use the needed parts to make voltron. That way you could get ultra detailed AND make voltron too........you can thank me later.....or call me stupid with my newbie thoughts lol.
Still looking for a silverhawk thread or a thundercats thread....but i know there are a couple of the thundercats threads floating around all ready.

I hardly watched Voltron as a kid, as i used to watch something that I liked more that played at the same time ( don't remember what though). It was, however, one of my favourite toys. A lot of nostalgia here. Good luck and I can't wait to see how this thread develops.

Sorry Artistic, that's just not what I'm going for.
I've always been a fan of movies with tragic endings, and that's kind of my plan here.
I'm going to start out by just modeling a very angry Red tiger. I'm going to follow up by doing a smashed to pieces Yellow behind him. With Voltrons sword at his feet. And a black smokey atmosphere behind him. I'll be working in that order, to see what I have time to do.
The idea being that the sword is only summoned by Voltron, so for this to be possible, Voltron must have had a very bad day. Red survives the catastrophe, and is left alone on the battlefield.
In the reference I've attached, the top left pic has the kind of style I'm wanting, while the top right shows a bit more of the mechanical detailing I might put in. The bottom right is what I'm using for my volume/size reference, I love the huge bulky feet.
I'm not sure how my time is going to go with this, I've never entered one of these challenges, and life is pretty crazy at the moment. I almost didn't post because I don't want to be too embarrased when don't finish

It's pretty rubbish, but it's a start. I've had to call it a night because my "new" mouse is making my wrist hurt...
It's moving pretty slowly, mostly because I'm redesigning is as I go, I'm building him around the pose I want to put him in. AND, I'm a really suck designer...
edit: and his mouth is wide open because there are charging cannons in the back of his mouth

I know you just started but I think the edges can be a little sharper, seems too rounded right now, also the teeth can be a little curved. Good start man keep going! Your scene idea sound really moody, I like it ;)
@Artistic... your idea of using the same lion body and change the heads would not work because each lion is unique. The lions that form the legs are larger than the lions that make the arms plus their design is slightly different, furthermore, the arm lions are both different, the left arm lion is rounded while the right is more square. The only parts that can be shared are the legs with some slight mods.

He was also called Go-Lion in Japan or the show was or something like that. My friend had the whole toy set but it was Go-Lion. Which we would have made fun of except it was the coolest thing EVER!
