Could you run my C4D tests?

I would like to have a realworld bencharms instead cinebench or Spec numbers.

Download .zip file

http://www.ominae.net/c4d/c4d_test.zip

test_1 needs only C4D
test_2 and test_3 needs C4D + avanced render

Thanks

Not the prettiest test ;). But nevertheless might be nice to illustrate differences in speed on the radiosity and caustics tests because Cinebench does not test those.

Intel Pentium 4 2000@2667 (fsb100@133)
768MB DDR PC2700 (166mhz DDR)

Test01: 0:30min
Test02: 4:16min
Test03: 1:09min

Edit: better results: a cleaned up system surely saves time :).

it's gotta be the ram?

Not posible, 256 MB of RAM is enough.
But probably your RAM is slower, your Xeons have less cache (don´t know if this is possible) or your system is consuming cycles in the background, try to reboot and run the test again.

Xeons are fast :applause:

How is a landscape and a light any more realworld than than an actual scene which contains all of the usual materials, textures, lights, shadows etc?

I have use this scene because for the CPU is the same (I think), but the file is smaller to download and faster to render. You do not need to stay 30 minutes in front of the computer, you can do it in 5 minutes and upload the results. Also you do not need tons of RAM to render and the system do not need to use virtual memory if you have only 256 MB of RAM (this was specially problematic using caustics).

My point is to test radiosity, caustics and a normal render using "time", instead the numbers thar appear on Cinebench.

Dude, no offense, but you only have a dual 450 G4....did you expect it to keep up with dual 2.8 Ghz Xeons??? You have something of 133mhz system bus as well. Its not bad considering your setup....now if you had those numbers with the dual 1.4 Ghz G4, then I might feel the same.

greekdish. no offense taken what so ever:) I know what I have :(. If the G5 is as promising as it seems I´m going to be happy. I was minutes from ordering a good PC setup just a few weeks ago when the rumour of the soon to come Mac started. On the positive side I´d tell you I know how to optimize scenes by now! That plus a new machine (Mac or PC) is worth the wait for the moment. The hesitation to swap to a Windows machine is not that I´d like it or not, it´s the mere costs of all programes.

Take care
Lennart

First, you have to be using XP Pro, since W2K doesn't support HT.

Second, there should be a setting in your bios to enable/disable hyperthreading.

HT should easily improve your scores by 20%.

I have problems with my system when I try to render my MetalSLug tank (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73085) on a high resolution with antialiasing turned on. (the big one is actually rendered by a friend of mine with some faster system  )
I get an error "virtual memory to low...". I setted my virtual memory to 4gb (was 1,5gb before) and then try to render it again and while rendering I kept an eye on the pagefilesize... When it got to 1,56 gb it already gave the error while I have 4gb of virtual memory
Suggestions? :surprised

@sjink: Try defragmentating your harddisk, virtual memory needs to be placed in 1 big space, if there is fragmentation it won't work.
Hope that helped :)

That is all very nice, but windows will only offer cinema 2gigs of ram, so 1.5gig of virtual and i assume 500megs of real ram will hit the 2 gig limit. What are you rendering that needs 2 gigs of ram?

Oh my. Dual G4 533 with plenty of RAM:

test1: 1.09 min
test2:...
test3: 3.19 min

I wouldn't humiliate myself by waiting 12mins for test 2 to complete. The speed here is approx 1/6 of the speed of Adam's dual Xeon monster. But mine's got a prettier box! ;-)

I had about a dozen other programs running in the background (no CPU-intensive tasks, though), so this was a true real-world test. :)

Interesting, my Test3 values are near AMD 2400+, while the other values are at about AMD 2000+ level.
