Hi everyone

I am an architecture student and I want to explore the idea of generating architecture forms thruough mathmetical equations or by other methods where the forms are randomly genrated by the computer

can anyone guide me to applications or scripts the can help me with that
thanks

Scripting in any package such as 3ds Max, Maya or maybe the new ICE in XSI is a way to go. However I would recommend using Rhino script inside of Rhino. It is heavily used in many arch schools and offices now for what you are asking. Try googling rhino script and architecture, there are many blogs and whatnot on the subject.

Examples:

Also, there is now a plugin for Rhino called Grasshopper, which let's use nodebased drag'n'drop "scripting". It's going really fast right now, kinda similar to Generative Components:

Hope that helps :)

I'm studying architecture too. We had in school some conferences about the solutions of the digital architecture / complex forms and other objects, that isn't so easy to model it with the classic method. The "grasshopper" is, in my opinion, kinda slow. Its based on the visual basic, that ist't the best solution. The other way is to type is directly. Max script is good too, but for shure : it canot be compared with the graphical platform of grasshopper. I deeply beleive there is a better way for doing these thing. I've been thinking for a time about mathsurf plugin to the max, that is doing some mathematical (parametric newly-fractalics and L-systems) forms, but it's stil just in this way....

If anybody can say more about this problem, don't hesitate and share it, cause i'm interrested in this too.
Thanx
