Im using adobe after effect, i've rendered out the background from maya as a maya iff file and the particle as both alpha mask and color..
So how do i arrange and composite in after effect, never done this b4! Do I need to check on any options when RendEring?

What i tried was, i put the background below, the next is the alpha and then the clour, so i turn on the alpha masking, it masked the top.. when i render it all out.. no masking happened, and the bg is cover by the top layers... plz explain...:annoyed:

As this is AE question I can answer you :)
I believe you rendered the alpha separetly from the rgb, right ?
so you have 3 different layers in AE.

Put the background in the time line,
then the particle (rgb) over it
then the alpha (grey levels).

click on the trackmatte pop up menu (near the layer name in the time line) of the particles rgb layer
and choose LUMA MATTE (name of your alpha layer)
the alpha layer desapears and is affected to the particles layer, now you can filter.

hope that helps
