What is 'Mudbox Hub'?

MudboxHub.com is the 1st dedicated Mudbox only users forum since the days of Skymatter. Although it has the full blessing of Autodesk this is an INDEPENDANT forum.

Why has MudboxHub been created in the 1st place?

Many Mudbox users dislike the Autodesk 'Area' forum as it is not a dedicated Mudbox forum among many other reasons. Added to which Mudbox users have been without a dedicated 'home' since the days of Skymatter and that needed to be resolved. Other applications have dedicated forums and Mudbox badly needed one.

Is it meant to replace TheArea, CGTalk and other forums for Mudbox users?

NO! TheArea will always be the place to go to report and get solutions for bugs, as an admin myself it has a lot of benefits and is the 'official' face of Mudbox in a forum. Added to which CGtalk will always be the hub of the 3d world in general. It is simply aimed at becoming a gathering place for Mudbox artists in the same way as the old tweak forum was for many mud users and Zbrush central is for Zbrush users.

Is it just a forum?

Far from it, it also contains every QuickStart video and soon will contain the entire 'Mudbox From the Ground Up' series in full high resolution for free. (Along with many exclusive videos.) There is much more planned that hinges on if Mudbox users really do want a Mudbox forum or not.

Are Autodesk paying for it?

No this is coming out of my own pocket at this moment in time, although users that can afford to contribute to keeping this site both alive and independent are free to do so. (Equally they are free to not do so as well..there's no pressure either way.)

By keeping MudboxHub.com independent it gives mudbox users the confidence in it not being just a shop window, but rather something they actually need and want it to be.

So there you are, it's been running in beta mode with users from a number of top companies (Weta, Pixar, Bioware etc...) for a month now and its finally ready to roll for the general public. I've tried to create something that users can build on over time and a central meeting place for digital sculptors using Mudbox.

Great initiative Wayne. The lack of a ZBrushCentral equivalent for Mudbox has always seemed like a huge mistake. Skymatter's own forum never really took off in my opinion, TheArea feels 100% corporate (again imo), and while Tweak was great when it was around, it was just as much for Zbrush entusiasts as it was for Mudbox entusiasts.

Even though Mudbox is targeted at professionals and studios, I think it's a very bad mistake to underrestimate the power of a strong community when you want to widen your userbase. I have no doubt that Pixologic has made a ton of sales on the strong community they have at ZbrushCentral, and I don't see why money from a amateur would be less worth than money from a industry professional.

I'm also thinking they would do good to hire you. You are doing a great job at spreading Mudbox awareness, not to mention all the workflow tutorials. Btw, are you the same Wayne who used to run a forum waaay back which showed some of the first Mudbox screenshots?

I WOULD join this, and I do support your efforts, but the last thing I need is yet ANOTHER forum to visit.

In saying that, I do hope this goes well for you, so all the best of luck! :wavey:

Yep the very same.... If the excitment back then of rumours about mudbox could have been bottled it'd be worth a fortune lol. I doubt that they would hire me for a few reasons the main one being the economic climate and the fact they shd 750 jobs recently. So I doubt it would go down too well after people being let go.

Unfortunately I'm one of those people that doesn't have an 'off switch' and its bound to drive them nuts eventualy lol. But so far they have been great about things (which is not suprisig bearing in mind the ammount of sales both quickstart and ground up brought in lol), and given a lot of support where they felt they could.

If the interest theres been overnight continues its fair to say MudboxHub will be a big sucess.

Registered.
Had a good chuckle at the registration bot detection questions.. :scream:

Wayne, the Login, Register buttons etc in the centre of the homepage are not currently working. Sounds silly, but maybe they weren't uploaded to the right ftp spot. :) I'm also having the same problem in each forum - see the snapshot I took... Link (http://www.cgfolio.co.uk/temp/mudhub.jpg)

Our code guys is going a few tweaks and modifications to the code base so its probably just a temporary thing. But thanks and I'll keep an eye on it.

I figured some funny security questions may prove mildly less mind knumbingly borring than the usual ones you find. lol

That was just a side effect of some database tweaks we were doing. All should be fine now. :)
