View Full Version : resetting an object to origin?
negative9 07-03-2003, 06:20 AM If I created an object and have moved it all around the screen, and want to place it back to (0,0,0) can I? (x,y,z)
You ask...whatever for when you have "Put On", and "AIM", Right?
Well I want to see how spacing is going to play, say if I was to put my objects in a game later.
Just wondering if it was possible. I guess it really isn't needed.

To get any element back to the origin create a new primitive (which will appear at the origin) and move your model to that, put on and bounding box commands are probably the ones to use. I've never attempted this myself so can't be more specific! - Baz

Depends on exactly what and how you want to re-centre.
If your object isn't symmetrical, Tools | Centre probably won't do the job, because it aligns the object's Bounding Box centre to the origin.
(Try this, create cone, extract normal a sloping edge, move free, then tools | centre - check the position of the cone apex with the Y axis)
For absolute precision, use Bounding Box commands - as Baz mentions - since you can define (and save) an individual vert as a reference - then hide the object - there is no visible indication (on screen) of the saved BBox - but you can still use it as a destination point to move stuff to.

Some info here if interested.

(BBox stuff won't rotate objects with respect to each other, though - unlike Put On.)

First, I guess It would help if I looked in the tools section more often.
Second, Never knew what tha BB was, now that I know it is something new I'll have to learn.
Thanx
