View Full Version : first finished model.. need your help!
cloudkj 07-03-2003, 05:57 AM hi all
this is the first wings3d model i did. pretty basic. now i need help rendering it. it would be great if some experts can download the model, and apply some cool textures or lighting or wahtever, and render it without changing the model.
i would love to see what the results are. and please post how you arrived at what you did. hopefully the software you end up using is free :p
thanks!!

i was wondering if you used a certain tutorial for that head? it looks familiar. this is my version. i have the same problem of not understanding the uv map functions and i have tried everything under the sun to get yafray to render but to no avail. so far i have done what you did and applied colors but i am not happy with how unrealistic it looks and would like to texture and stuff

yea, i used a tutorial for it. like i said, it's my first model. the model rendered using wings3d's default OpenGL render mode actually isn't too bad. but of course i want to do much more.
can anyone out there please download my model and do some cool stuff with it please? ie. texturize, render using yafray, etc. so hopefully i can learn what to do in the process..

For the texturing i have used the UV Mapping inside of the wings!
For the paint i have used the Gimp !!
This is the texture:

MrBraun!
THANK YOU! I love how it looks now! :applause:
So you did all that using just wings3d, gimp, and anim8or? Can you explain how you created and applied the texture using UV Mapping and gimp? I am not familiar with texturing at all.
Also, how did you do the eyes? It looks like you might have changed the model a little? I'm still not sure how to model eyeballs :surprised
Thanks for your help :thumbsup:

Tnx cloudkj !!
Yep i have used only this software !!
I have not changed the model !!
The eyes are the normal sphere where i have applied different color on surface.
I have freezed the specular part and have quadrangulate the model; after have create the UV map with the command inside of the Wings3d.
I have saved the UV coordinates and have painted on it for texturing!
Final, i have redered all into Anim8or!
That's all !!
P.S.
If u want i create one step by step process ond post here !!

MrBraun,
If you can post a step-by-step guide here, that would be great! It helps me a LOT :p
Thank you for your time!
Hopefully others can learn from this too:cool:

hi MrBraun,
can you please follow up with the step-by-step guide?
most importantly how you did the UV mapping, like which faces did you assign as a group and why.. and texturing.
thankS!

Sorry for the delay cloudkj!!
For the UV mapping:
1) i select the entire model;
2) Right mouse and I invoke the UV command;
3) go to into face selection and select all face of the model and assign to UV CHART 1;
4) space bar to deselect all;
5) Select the polygon face that i want to isolate (like the face of the head, the hair ecc. - hpwever the more simple part of the model) and assign it to UV CHART 2;
6) After i continue and unfold the texture ;
7) save the UV map and paint on it with a paint program.
TIP:
If u select a closed surface, is necessary to make a cutting edge!)
Hope that is helpful !
:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Did you also post this nice result in the Anim8or forum ?
Great choices of free TOOLS !

MrBraun,
I like your step 3
3) go to into face selection and select all face of the model and assign to UV CHART 1;
I always did it individually - and always endied up missing something! Your is a much better way to go about it.

what's a closed surface? and what's a cutting edge? :shrug:
MrBraun

Yep cloudkj, the cosed surface could be a perimeter surface of a cilinder!
To unfold the texture that u want to apply to this surface, is necessary to cut it into one edge !! :thumbsup:

MrBraun,
can you explain more in detail how you unfolded the head into the 2 pieces in your texture image?
i understand how to cut a closed surface now, but i dont know where to cut it so taht it unfolds like the way yours does. :shrug:
