View Full Version : .3ds-export error!
When I export a model to *.3ds the model breaks up inte pieces. Seems like it breaks up the different areas that have different material id's. How am I gonna solve this?

Do you mean a single mesh gets split into elements (lost smoothing between areas)? This could be caused by UV coordinates - if you have assigned different UV mappings to the areas with different Material IDs, checking the "Preserve MAX Texture Corrds" checkbox in the exporter will have this undesired side effect. On the other hand, not checking the checkbox will preserve the smoothing but will corrupt the mapping...
Some more info about the object (single mesh or multiple objects? single UV map or multiple? etc.) would be useful.
Do you absolutely need to use 3DS to transfer the file?
What is the target platform? Are there other formats supported you could use?
Just remember 3DS is an almost 15 years old format and cannot handle everything you throw at it... :(

Yeah it's a single mesh getting split into more elements and loses it's smoothing (and connection). I want to export to bodypaint so I can paint on it in 3d so theres maybe a better format than .3ds? Gonna check out which formats are supported by bodypaint. Any suggestions? :)
