Hi guys! I'm currently modeling a Robot for my Demo Reel. I've already finished the robots body and now I'm working on it's leg.
What I wanna know is if I have to go to basic. Like in the leg part, do I have to make it straight where I will put every detail up to its toe or just make a cube to make the leg, lower leg and it's foot then work on it's detail after that?

Sorry for the grammar, I can't really explain myself. Hope you can help me guys.

Generally speaking, you want to work from broad to narrow; that is, block in the general forms before adding details.

Do you have any referance images or concept work of the robot your trying to make? It would be alot easier to provide useful information if we had an idea of what it was you are trying to make.

I always find it easier to block the overall shapes in first and then work in the detail.

Here are some images (hosted on imageshack) of some Mobile Suits I made.

(Ignore the website on the images...I'm still working on it.)
