Hi,

I have this object that was originally imported from obj file. Now, I've scaled it (x2) and rotated it by 180 in Y direction. Weird thing happens when I try to Freeze Transform.

Object somehow flips the light around it. To clarify it a bit. Let's assume the default light which comes from camera direction. Well, light, when freeze transform is applied, is casting illumination on the back side instead of the facing side. This is true for all lights! Weird, really weird. I've tried everything, from applying different material, to browsing through attribute editor.

note, I've discovered this has to do with Rotation axis being freezed, when I freeze any other transform (eg. Scale or Translation) everything behaves as normal.

thanks-

PS
I use Maya 4.5.

I've had the exact same problem. The only thing that worked for me is exporting the model as a *.ma then importing it back into maya. I dont why that worked but it did. Try giving that a try. If you got it going another way please post the info, i'm curious to see.

Well, I've solved the problem the retarded way. I've imported .obj file in Lightwave Modeler, scaled and rotated it there, and imported it back into Maya. Lightwave seemed to fix the crappy problem with freeze transform, since I can do it now without the nasty lighting artifact. Though, I've lost all smoothing groups on the model (luckly, it's a relatively clean shape, so smoothing it back was simple).

I just wish I could filter out the problem in .obj file. Model BTW originated in Winged Edge, whatever... heh

Did you try unlocking the normals?
