I created these in MAYA 4.5 as a start to a still life bowl of fruit image for my lighting/texturing demo reel. These are just the first basic textured models with simple 3 point lighting. I posted this just to see if any lighting/texturing gurus could pass along some wisdom. I will post updates tomorrow.

I'm no guru - but you should maybe crank up the lights a bit in order to reveal the textures a bit more.

The specularity on the apple is way off, it does not even look organic. Watch the falloff and try to apply a specularity map there.

The pear would look great with some subsurface scattering. The texture on it is quite good, but I think the "dark dots" should be smaller.

Are these procedural textures? It looks like it - and if so, remove them and do something with bitmaps instead, that will look much better once they're painted up properly. Fruitskin is a very good reference since it can be peeled off, flattened and put in the scanner :D

These are really dark. I have a dim monitor here at work and i can barely see the apple. My fault i know, but just an fyi.

The pear looks quite nicely textured though.

I think your fruit is sexy... all I need to say is that you need a little more of a warm light so that your fruit dosn't look like it's brooding.

Good fruit good , Evil fruit BAD :shame:

The orange looks good (maybe it should be not-so-yellow, but that could simply be a display calibration issue on my side) - - - The apple - more light, yes, it reveals a need for retexturing::.. A quick reference I googled --->

That's just an ordinary photo of an apple.
