It was all done in maya to my knowledge. Some, all?, the backgrounds are treated footage, with 3D characters tracked in...
I'll try to find out when the whole pilot might air.

No, I don't know what is happening to the pilot, you could contact the animators through their site. Steward is an old friend, I'll see what he can tell me, but I bet they would appreciate some feedback to the address on the site.
