(http://assets.cgsociety.org/nvart/364318_1235165430/1024bound)I brought lots of pieces of childhood and put them together in their own little world.
The name and the fast moving snails are based on the worst joke I heard in my childhood; it still makes me laugh because it's so bad:
'Once there was a snail who was tired of being slow. He went out and bought a really fast sports car and had the dealer paint a big 'S' on each side of it.
Whenever someone saw him zooming past in his new car, they would say, "Hey, look at that S-car go!"'
Technical:
Modeled in 3dsmax 2008. Rendered with VRay 1.5.
Vertices: 505,528
Faces: 557,612
Rendered into 6 layers, then each layer was hand-painted in Photoshop and composited.
Originally I was going to use ambient occlusion, but realized that I could bring out the shading that I wanted with self-illumination.
