View Full Version : how to accomplish this effect with the circles
neurofaux 07-02-2003, 04:14 PM what is a quick and easy way to accomplish this effect (the blue circles in the background that "gradiently" fade into each other). i want to be able to simply create these circles that shrink and expand as they bleed into each other.
any help appreciated as i really dig this effect! thanks.

Ahhhhh, my first ever post... how exciting.
If I had the time and sufficient caffine in my bloodstream i'd tell you how to get the exact effect, but alas, I have neither. But I can get you in the ballpark:
1) Make a gradient fill between the two colours you want eg light blue and darker blue in that original pic.
2) Goto filter>pixelate>colour halftone.
3) Experiment with those settings. Try setting all the channels to the same angle to keep things looking clean.
4) I've found you sometimes need to adjust the colour levels afterwards because of the way the filter works.
Well, after my first experience I feel like I need a cigarette, and I don't even smoke no more....

thanks for the response, but you can actually get better/faster results with Sketch>Halftone Pattern but I was hoping someone out there has perfected this technique on irregular shapes (it's a lot easier to do it on simple circular/linear gradients and such).

Hithere,
This method wouldn't be quick at all, but anyway...
I would create two fill layers with the two different shades of blue (or whatever the colors are...duh!) and use vector masks on the upper layer. U would actually only have to create one set of circles with shrinking/growing radius, and then copypaste. If you select the move tool (or whatever its name is...) and select more than two elements, you can evenly distribute them...
...or just have someone do it for you;)
have fun experimenting, cheers.

hello,
here is how I would go on about it.
open a document.
first create a new channel in channel pallette.
create any shape u want, use marquee or lasso, after that fill the selection and deselect (ctrl +d) and apply gaussian blur
(experiement here).
so you have a blurry white thingie on the canvas, now go to pixelate and apply colour halftone, you might want to come back and experiement here. play with the settings.
so you have black circles and on white background or whatever it is. ctrl+click the channel layer invert selection (ctr+shift+i), go to layer palette with the selection and apply fill.
i think i got it right, well you will get the idea, the circles might be other way around and so on but should become clear once you try it i guess..
here's a example of mine in few minutes.

Learn to design these really neat looking trance dots. Quick, simple, and effective tutorial. Most commonly used on logos, web design, banners etc....
Simple tutorial you can have completed within five minutes. Great for small things and very useful in big projects as a little something on the side.
Step 1
Open a new document,, size doesn't matter. Fill the background with a bright color, I used: #788CC8. Now Reset the Default Foreground and Background Colors by pressing the 'D' key.
Step 2
Enter Quick Mask Mode by pressing the 'Q' key. Now Select the Gradient Tool and pick the Linear gradient. Draw a line with the gradient from the left side of your document to the right.
Step 3
Use the filter Pixelate/Color Halftone. Use the default values.
Exit Quick Mask Mode by pressing the 'Q' key. You get a selection, fill it in with a colour, I used white. Finally deselect everything.
