View Full Version : Lighting: volumetrics problem

Hi!
I ve got problem with following effect:

I ve got ball with material using procedural map for opacity (black and white) and omni light placed inside.

What I need is omni cast volumetric shadows from center of ball to outside.

I ve tried everything - using different shadow types, tune volumetrics settings, flipping normals of the ball but without luck!

Is it possible in max that opacity mapped objects cast accurate volumetric shadows at all???

I don't think so. Volumetric Lights only work with shadow maps. And to my knowledge, a shadow map is going to see an opacity mapped object as opaque every time.

Max Volume light canīt do that.
Anway ScatterVL Pro can do this, and I think Scatter VL the free version too, since it supports raytraced shadows.
