im looking to mirror a door handle (door handle comprised of a few parts grouped together) is there any way i can do this without having to mirror each separate part?

Yes, there are (at least) two ways to do this. If you don't mind moving the object, you could use a symmetry object and make it editable.
Otherwise, select the heirarchy (or multiselect objects if in different heirarchies) and copy. Then, in the coordinates manager, twirl down the middle column list to bring up "scale" instead of "size". Now with the copied objects still selected, enter -1 in the field of the axis you want to use as your mirror axis and press enter.
