Is there anyway to change C4Ds navigation shortcuts 1, 2 and 3 to match those in Maya i.e. hold down the MMB and alt to zoom, RMB + MMB + Alt to rotate and RMB + Alt to Pan (I am not sure if I have got these round the right way but you know what I mean ;)

I now you can map certain keys but can you map mouse buttons for shortcuts?

Ta very much!

Hi,

Unfortunately no!

You can't ake advantege of modifier keys or MMB and RMB in Cinema 4D's shortcuts.

Bum, bum, bum and double bum! - I like Maya's nav tools more than C4Ds :annoyed:

That would be cool. I hate when I switch between apps and then constantly hit the wrong keyboard/mouse shortcuts.

Hm, so change the shortcuts in Maya to match C4D's. :lightbulb

Ah, Commanche, I suppose the irony in your mail was intended. But the point is that Maya's shortcuts are much more intuitive than C4D's. And I'm not saying that because I knew Maya's shortcuts first, because I didn't.

Cheers,
BaRa

That's true!

I used C4D for almost 2 years before I even touched Maya, and after 5 minutes I was trying to do the same in C4D!

It really feels much more natural, because u only have one shortcut key and then use the 3 mouse buttons to rotate, track and dolly.

thats the point! I use maya much less often than c4d, but still the maya shortcuts get stuck in my brain...its evil magic. And I've been using c4d much longer than maya too!

That's why I asked the question... I like the Maya Workflow it's smooth and efficient. I like C4D too but I find some of it's workflow clunky. I wish it had NLA tools too - Mocca doesn't really cut it for me!

If you're using a Microsoft Mouse you can program recent Intellipoint versions to use different behaviour for different programs. So, add C4D to the list and program the Wheely button to Keypress 1.

The only problem is you have to hold the wheel button AND the left button to pan or right button to zoom (hold down 1 and right-drag zooms), so it's a bit awkward.

I forgot I'd done this, reading this thread reminded me...

Yes it was, so please forgive me! ;)

I do not know Maya, but I have no problems to use different navigation methods in different applications (Cinema4D, Lightwave3D, Wings3D). So I will leave this thread.

Would it be hard for Maxon to, I dont know, maybe publish some sort of switch packs patches that would change the default C4D shortcuts to, for example, Maya or XSI shortcuts? I think that would be awsome.

I can understand that direct copying of another 3d package is lames as, but still, this kind of small things would be greately appreciated.

Just dont try to copy the number of bugs Maya or Lightwave has.:scream:

i agree abou the nav shortcut keys.. they're too far out of the way.. i'm used to Max.. i can just rest my hand on the desk, then hold down the apporpriate key (Alt+MMB, Alt+Ctrl+MMB) to rotate and zoom (respectively)..
if anyone here's ever used Wings3d (awesome ploymodeler!!) it gives you the option of choosing different nav key methods (3dsmax, maya, blender..) i tried to remap the keys in C4d in the command manager and quickly discovered that i couldnt :P
i use a Logitech Trackman Marble FX instead of a mouse.. so the way its shaped, its very difficult for me to hold down all 3 mouse buttons at once.
i'd like some kind of scripting integrated into C4D that supports making your own tools, key commands and so on.. (maxscript and mel) ... also!! > the ability to name the viewports (front, back, perspective, etc) ... would be tremendously helpful!

just a thought :)

agreed...
viewport labels and customizable camera behavior would be
a great improvement. I am surprised nobody here has mentioned
anything about Cinema's rotations being reversed. In every 3D
program I have used, moving the mouse right rotates the view right....
in Cinema moving the mouse right rotates left.

I can only ask--WHY?! :hmm:

In any case, the option definitely should be there.

Yeah everyone really needs to tell maxon what they want so that c4d can get better. Thank you maxon for listening to your customers. :applause:
