View Full Version : how do I select a material via selecting a face?
anthonymcgrath 07-02-2003, 10:59 AM we all know selecting a material in the hypershade, right clicking, then choosing 'select objects with material' will select the faces/objects that are under this shader but how do I do the opposite - ie: select a face/object and make maya select the shader/s in the hypershade that are assigned. its buggin the heck out of me now.

select the face, go to HyperShade and click on the "little blue sphere with two green Cubes"-icon.
Disantvantage: It will select all Materials assigned to the object, which contains the faces.
But at least you have one of perhaps 5, than one of maybe 100

RMB on the object/component will give you the option to select Material Attributes.....one other way is to select object then hit input/outputs in the hypershade which will give you the shading group....and with this you can find the material pretty fast
