View Full Version : How to create rails easily?
Madpear 07-02-2003, 09:44 AM Everything is in the title.
Creating the first rail, is pretty easy, but how to make the second one? This one should match the shape of the first one but with an offset. The second think is to create the shape of the rail. There must be no deformation when the rail turns. And if the rail makes a loop (like a rolercoaster), the top of the rail must aim the right direction.
Is there a mel wich make this easy? Or any advice?

Search for Tank tread use the same method but don't animated them.

1 method:
use animated sweep using a motion path. You would create a motion path along the center axis the rail would follow. Create the rib section and also create a 2cv linear curve with the midpoint snapped to the motion path that would be the exact width of the rails(no rails yet) and do animated sweep along the curve you created. Set the settings for as many copies you like. the Ribs should be finished....but with linear curve....you should loft all of them into one surface......and then duplicate 2 surface curves from the loft. This will give you the offset you wanted.....and use these 2 curves to extrude 2 tubes for the rail.
