I'm working with Maya and I'm trying to replicate a jungle scene, I've got most of my objects ready, I just need to light my scene.

I am very much a noob in lighting. I would like to make the scene seem humid, hot, heavy, with a green/brown tone.

I would VERY much appreciate any pointers. Really! And I would gladly return the favor wherever it's needed.

One of my most recent pieces dealt with a little jungle in it. I used images from the movie Madagascar as influence. I'd also suggest looking at images from the game Crysis.

A big thing to make things feel humid is using a depth effect. If you take a depth pass then in Photoshop or your compositing package apply the depth pass to the color you choose, in this case you want a heavy brown/green look, you should achieve a humid look.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used the render depth pass before, is that in the render layers>attributes?

And you mean to use Photoshop to take over the final touches like overlaying the green/brown color? Like I said, I'm a beginner in lighting, so please correct me. :)

I'm not sure what version of maya you are using but I do know that if you create a render layer and then right click on the render layer one of the presets is depth pass. There's a good tutorial here:

Gotcha, I'm gonna try some things and come back if I have questions. You've been a great help man.
