View Full Version : unstable max file ?
danielphillis 07-02-2003, 01:38 AM hi all :)
i have a feeling that my model is crashing my file,
but it seems to crash more often when i change from wireframe display to smooth and shaded.
i am using an Asus gforce card. (and I am using a legit max 4.2)
has anyone had experience with specific geometry making
a max file crash all the time ?
ive tried seperating my geometry into different
file to try and find the corrupt piec to no avail.
this model was starteded by someone else who reported crashing that "seemed to go away after a few versions were saved"...
any help would be much appreciated.

What is the nature of the crash? Do you get a warning? Does it freeze the system?
More often than not, these crashes tend to be to do with your graphics driver. You will need to have the most stable release. Also, check both openGL and DirectX drivers in your viewport settings.

It's always been a lurking feeling that certain scenes just crashes MAX more than others. Does your scene only contain geometry? I assume you've tried collapsing the sucker, but how about exporting it, then importing it again? I don't have any proof that would help anything, I'm just pondering out loud if maybe that could correct something..
Bah. Nuts to MAX crashing. Hopefully Discreet will solve this one up good in R6 eh :).

hey !
thanx for the replies so far ! :)
---------------------------------------
the nature of the crash:
standard max warning...with the red cross,
"do you want to save a copy ?"
(thank god every save at this point has worked..)
no system freezing..
---------------------------------------
thx gaggle..
i removed everything else but the geometry so i assume
thats it...
i made a proxy with utilities, collapse - and this hasnt crashed so far...
but i cant do this to the final model until it has been locked off by creative ppl...
i feel I cant export due to fragile
Illustrate! settings for the toon shading...edge ID nos etc...
i think collapsing is the go...I may have to bite the virtual bullet.
