For those that already know me. Please put in a good word for me with your current employer if they have need of someone with my skill set.

For those that don't know me, Here is a little background.

My name is Rich Suchy. I was first hired into this industry by Foundation Imaging to work on Roughnecks: The Starship Trooper Chronicles. At FI I went on to create 40 heads and morph targets for that show, and continued on with Max Steel seasons 1 and two and finally Dan Dare where I got to model, Rig, do Hair dynamics with Joe Alters Shave and a Haircut, light some scenes and some small bits of animation. After the finish of Dan Dare I went to Disney where I got to work on many project experiments in 3D, though I am at no liberty to discuss what they were as they were R&D and have not aired. Most recently I was challenged with building and painting several of the Tremors monsters for the Tremors tv serial on the Sci-Fi channel. Those mosters included the Shriekers, the Ass Blaster, some acid and spore spitting plants, an odd Bug and Project 312.

SKILL SET: Superior Character Modeling/ Texturing. Rigging. Hard Surface Modeling and Texturing. UV setup, Cloth Simulation, Dynamic Hair simulation, Animation, Traditional Drawing Skills, Supervisory Skills. I am a quick study, with an eye for detail.

My Pre-3D life was devoted to comicbook illustration where I had the privilege of drawing comic books for Marvel and Darkhorse comics.

If you have any job-leads or are an industry insider and just want to network, please send me a personal message and introduce yourself. I can then give you links to my current and old work as well as my private email address.

Thanks

That would be a no, not one.

I got a free week pass to Siggraph (I was offered two) not relating to this CgTalk... So I will be going there is also a discount for amtrack. I dont know what I'll do about a hotel, Ill either find one, or pitch in rent money for crash space with someone. (feels like my pre-college days)

You'd think a 'vet' like yourself wouldnt have trouble finding work...

I assume you've sent a plethora of reels to studios?

You might think so.

Lots and lots of reels. :)

It still is a matter of timing and who you know. I am on talking terms with a few of the big houses at the moment but none of them are hiring for what I do at the moment. Even Sony isnt hiring for about 4 or 5 months though they did put out an add. Then It may be a matter of how many people they have inhouse to fill those roles...

I came from a Lightwave background but am more a Maya guy these days. That effects the circles I run in. Its like starting over though I might accept a Lightwave job if offered. Rythm and Hues liked my work and are keeping me in mind when an opportunity comes up and just the other day made a point of re-checking my reel to see if it indicated enough talent in other areas that they needed filled. (I sent them a modeling. texture painting reel- They are looking over lighting candidates)

I do Have very good references from Disney, Encore, and Arena Films.
Some companies may be waiting for Siggraph.

Two companies want me to make models as a test... I dont know if the jobs are even doable until we discuss payment excetra. I really dont feel like making test models for a job I dont know if I can accept. My time may be better spent on my current projects and next reel.

By the way... Roger is one of my references. He was my Supervisor over at Foundation and worked with me while I was at Disney :)

I recieved a second inquiry from the board. I guess its good to keep the thread alive.

Thanks Roger.

I keep trying to get started on a new web-site but I guess I get too ambitiouse to ever get one done.

Ill throw my old one into that place as it at least works such as it is.

I am trying to figure out what I want to do with the web-site and layout, while working on other things that will eventually be better content.

Ill get the old one back up there for now. Its very dated though...

When it comes to TDing, I considder myself pretty junior in the league of feature makers. I am not really a programmer (Though I do understand some programming languages well enough) I couldnt use them for many practicle cg tasks.
All my solutions use the tools in the package not including mel. I use mel to delete nodes and resize clusters of vertexes, and automate light set-ups, not much more than that.

My best skills are modeling, texture painting, UV map setup, cloth and hair. I am on the alpha team to work with ACT on Maya.

I had my doubts until this thread was revived.

It will be interesting to see if a CGTalk leed lands me my next job, or if an old contact does first.

hey rich!!

nice to see you online.

Been awhile!

Wow, brings back memories from max steel and troopers days. =)

I"m updating my website too. Been doing alot more feature work.
check out alien hunter on july 19th, I supervised the corn sequence, created the virtual sets, and basically set up the dying corn effects. A fun experience to say the least.

I'm working on a short story right now. Script is 90% done.. which is for me the hardest part.

Check out DD.

Good to hear from you Peter. I'll check it all out.

Believe me I've sent allot of reels to allot of people at DD. THe general consensus I've gotton seems to be that people on the floor like my work and recommend me but that those above HR, dont seem too impressed with my reel. Perhaps it a difference of taste. I would love to know what DD would like to see in a reel. I'd be happy to give it to them. :)

Peter, nice reel by the way. I just checked out your site.

I like the way the reel is put togather. Did you work exclusively in Lightwave for 3d?

peterpro

Thanks again, I spent some time to get the reel looking decent.
It's like my 10th incantation since i started in this field.
you should see my first reel.. hehe i made that in 1993.

I'm not really a character modeler person really, more sets and animation and 2d compositing.

3d is all exclusively lightwave =)

still not a maya guy yet..

7.5 lightwave is still pretty robust. But you know how it goes, great and quick for broadcast, kinda crappy for character animation becuase the bones suck.

Also renderfarms let you do amazing things =)
