View Full Version : Anatomy Thread for balistic
balistic 02-17-2009, 01:06 AM Hi guys. Here are some quick renderings from the wonderful life drawing sessions offered here at Blur. Sessions are biweekly, and I'm not always able to attend (deadlines, etc), so this thread may not move very quickly, but I value any and all critique.
Almost all of these poses are 5 minutes or less, with a couple 10 minute ones. One thing that I notice myself doing is glossing over hands and feet, but with such quick poses, and the model being 20' away, I have a hard time nailing down anything more concrete than an action line. Definitely something I need to work on.

Heya, welcome aboard. :) Nice to see someone doing digital life studies, that's something I want to start doing once I get a decent laptop. Ah, so you're at Blur and attending the sessions run by Sze? Nice. :)
It's funny because I recognize several of the models (Sarah being one of them, the older male model whose name I don't know, but he's definitely been modeling for some time). I stopped by Blur once with Rini, nice setup there. Do you guys still update your blog? I haven't seen any recent posts, but it's cool to see that the sessions are still running.
Keep posting!
Cheers,
-R

Hi Rebecca. Yes, Sze does a great job running our sessions. It seemed like we might have to cancel them for a while because attendance was dwindling, but it's increased a lot since the holidays.
The blog still exists (http://blurlifedrawing.blogspot.com/) but is obviously a bit of a ghost town. I think the issue is that we usually don't have a camera handy to snap the work of the people using traditional media.
Sarah's very recognizable isn't she? I believe the older guy's name is Charles.
Thanks for stopping by.

nice studies balistic - I'm especially impressed with those really simple ones, with few lines - I find it hard to draw single defining lines with a tablet... something worth practicing!
...from the wonderful life drawing sessions offered here at Blur...
That is pretty cool...
Is it quick poses constantly or are there some longer poses as well?
The color painting with the model standing with one foot on the chair looks like a longer study.
I agree with Intervain, the ones with few lines are beautiful!

Thanks guys. Yes, the color piece was a longer pose ... about an hour, I think. Most of the others were 2-5 minutes, with a couple 10 minute poses. I'm more comfortable with long poses, but everybody else likes quick ones, so that's what we do the most of.
It's good to get out of my comfort zone though. The quick drawings are the ones people seem to like the best.

Sorry for the long absence, I've been missing a lot of drawing sessions because of deadlines. I did manage to make it last night though:

Once again I'm demonstrating my phobia of drawing hands and feet. I will focus on those next time.

Hey nice drawings - you make it look effortless with your simple lines. I like the faces especially !
I have to do some hand studies - they always catch me out too.

Hi Brian..:) ..Nice life drawings...
I read that you are not able to get to the hands and feet in the quick studies..
You might try starting with those hands and feet to start with, and work your way into the rest of the figure from those points....:)

It's no Blur by any means, but yes, it is work :) I severely miss film, but it's kinda cool getting different work every week....the deadlines are crazy to work with sometimes, definitely have to make things work right the first time. Even though I lead the lighting, I still do a lot of other things in a general sense. How's things going for you man?? It's been a long time.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I finally had a chance to attend a session last week, after a three month dry spell:

Awesome man! Congrats! Yeah they are a little spensive! But it's too much fun :) The drawings are great! I wish we had something like that at my place....guess I could always sign up for a class somewhere.
