Firstly yes I have been influcened by Finding Nemo.
Anyway here is a WIP, basically I want to recreate under water. I am trying to follow the 6 rules set out by Pixar.
1. Merk
2. Dancing lines on the sea bed
3. Vol lights from the surface
4. Constant movment of surface (needs work, will only show in animation)
5. Loss of colour the further you go back into the merk.
6. Particles in the water.. constantly moving (needs work, can only really see in animation)

As you can see its very boring, alot of the water is done with Vol lights and fog so there isnt much to see in a wire image. All the red squares are the particles.. done using aplha maps.
I am using 3D Studio Max 5.0
Things I think need improving. Firstly the surface, it needs alot of work. It doesnt have that transparent moving feel to it. I think the vol lights should go into the distance more. There should be more particles floating. And I also need some way of grounding the image. Some form of sea bed, maybe gloomy underwater mountains in the distance with some close up coral i dont know.
