View Full Version : Unwrapping a head
3d_man_89 07-01-2003, 05:34 PM How do you unwrap a head cylindrically? I tried uvw unwrap but it only unwraps planar. What I need to do is unwrap the head so I can use it as a reference when creating the texture, then i'm going to apply the texture to the head and cylindrically map it. Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

First put an uvw map modifier on the object with cylindrical mapping. Above that put an uvw unwrap and click on edit.
Make sure both have the same mapping channels.

There's a great tutorial on everything you need to create a human character:

Thanks but I have another question, when you press save, it will only save as a .uvw. How do you open that type of file in a paint program or is it possible to save it as a different file? I need to open it in a paint program so I can make the textures over the unwrapped version of my head.
You have to use a plugin "Texporter" or similar. It is free. It can export your unwrap to bitmap file.
*.uvw type is needed to use it for another object if you want to apply the same UVW to it.
