I am trying to create an effect than involves a chrome sphere with shallow inlays that give off a faint blue glow. I am attempting to test the effect so I might use it in the future, but I cannot get it to work right now. What I have tried so far goes as follows:
I created a polygon sphere with shallow inlays in the geometry. I created a transparency map texture that should make the inlays transparent and leave the rest of the sphere visible. I created a layered shader and plugged the transparency map into the transparency node. Then, I made the top layer of the layered shader chrome, and the bottom layer a blue lambert with a glow applied. The problem is this: when I render this project there is no transparency at all. It is just all chrome. If I do not use a layered shader the trans map works correctly, but then I do not know how to get the blue glow underneath to show under the transparency. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make an effect such as this, possibly a more efficient way, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
