View Full Version : Coolermaster fans
for all those using coolermaster fans (i know greg uses them)
im having a lot of trouble screwing them to the case, do the screws actually work? cos they seem a bit wide to fit thru the fan itself
and the fans come with a 4pin connector, am i right in saying that this connects to the psu?

are u talking about the regular 80mm fans? I'm really ticked @ those things. They aren't pre-threaded for you. U need a really strong screwdriver to take the wide screw to force it in to slice the plastic into having the correct threads. U just gotta force it.... and careful not to strip the screw while ur @ it... I've done that far too many times.... -.-"
yeah the 80mm fans, theyre so annoying! but in the end, i just used those tack things that came with my lian li case fans, theyre plastic, andim hoping they dont melt and are strong enough to hold the fans :s
oh and sometimes u get those silver metal fan guard things, what do they do? do they keep dust out or something?

those grill thingers are finger guards. U don't wanna get frustrated one day and try to work on ur system w/ the power still running and then get ur finger caught in them fans. Plastic or not, they can hurt pretty bad if u get them in @ just the right angle.... hehehehe. But yeah, those screws are wider than the holes in the fan so u can get a FIRM fit. U gotta thread them urself by forcing the screw into the still-solid plastic hole.
i think ill leave the finger guards off seein as i never work wiv the comp on, besides, dnt want to obscure the lovely blueness of the fans :D
are screws absolutely nessecary? those plastic things seem to be holding fairly well at the moment, and theres no need to thread the fan holes

plastic things? Please do describe. I mean, if it works, leave it. The grills actually give the blue LED fans some nice texture. I used those on my old system and it looked better w/ the grill.
texture? what do u mean by texture?
these plastic things, umm, well theyre black and they consist of two parts, one is long and the other has a hole in it
when u push them together the part with the hole expands and this bit holds the edges of the fan hole in place
nt a very gd explanation, sorry :s

they make the thing look cooler, don't worry about it. =D Attach them. It gives ur fans a more "industrial" look. ^.^

no problem @ all. =D Blue fan, silver grill, all the lights out = cool.....
and yeah, u won't regret it cuz one day ur gonna be troubleshooting hardware w/ the system still running and ur finger will bang up next to that fan. In anycase, a fly got sucked into my fan once.... it wasn't nice. -.-"

Ya their a pain in the ass. Its because the holes aren't threaded yet. The first time you screw in the case screw, it threads the plastic...so its hard as hell to get in there.
I usually just screw in the case screws while holding the fan in my hand...BEFORE trying to put it in the case.
You can get away with two screws (on opposite sides) with no problem, so its not too annoying.

yeah, and the stupid Antecs give some weird stupid metal screws that are soft as heck so like the head strips like mad.... I ended up going out to get some stainless steal screws that don't strip so easily... now if only I could get that damn screw off my laptop that got stripped.... -.-"
thx for the info guys!
just incase u guys didnt no what i was tlkin bout earlier with the plastic things (which u prolly didnt) then i was using snap rivets (just found out what theyre called)
theyre thses things (kinda):

would the 80mm coolermaster fans be able to cool an XP3200?

Depends on the heatsink.
If its a Thermalright SLK800 or 900, SK7, or Ax7...then yes.
(Those are the sinks I've tested with a coolermaster (4 LED) 32 CFM, 25 db fan.)
