kinda cool but ooh I don't know, how about dropping the price for the commercial license so it's a bit more afforable for even freelancers or studios with tight wallets at the moment. ;)

Are you serious? Ryan didn't even have to offer this to begin with. I don't think I would be asking for additional price reductions

Boo! I guess the saying is true, you can please half the people all the time, and all the people half the time, but you can never please cheapskates. :)

I've never read a good post from that guy anyway.

Anyway, I bought Shadermap a year ago due to I didn't see the point buying something that could do the same thing for way less. Shadermap is 25 bucks and does a good job for what I'd need.

The thought is genuine though and he didn't have to do it at all. You gotta commend good intent from people, even if you don't plan to use their product.

That's darned cool of Ryan to do that.

I suspect that in the coming months we may be seeing similar offers being made or price cuts being offered by other big name software companies. There may actually be some good to the current economic situation we're in by the resulting "deflation" of prices that's taking place.

I just lost my job as well. The biggest screen print co. in the city where I'm at went black on the last day of January of 09. They are now owned by Regions Bank. Thankfully I was able to find another job in Panama City so I'm in the middle of moving as we speak.

I suspect that Autodesk and others will have to seriously rethink their pricing as well if they want to survive in the coming months. I've always been a Waver ( Lightwave 3D ), but if Max drops to under a thousand, I just may pick that up as well ( once I'm on my feet again ).

Actually, I agree that the commercial CB license is overpriced. But that doesn't diminish the kind gesture Ryan is making now.

True, this is a very nice offer and Ryan should have many thanks for offering this to us. I appreciate it very much!

Even if that is the case. I really don't think this is the thread to bring that up in

That's a very nice gesture. And I'm sure that all the artists benefiting will be honest enough to inform Ryan when they find new work:applause:

That's a really decent thing Ryan has done there, hope some other folk making decent software can offer something similar for those people not so lucky as those in work.

Having just come back from the job centre and read this, I gotta say I am feeling emotional. What an outstanding thing to do.

Crazy bump is a genius piece of software that should be in everyone's CG toolkit.

In reponse to the first reply in this thread; I may be wrong, but I was under the understanding that CB was Ryans main source of income, so whether you think it's a tad expensive (I don't, considering what all it can do so much better than other programs) you have to admire the fact he's doing this. Kudos to him.

It's a really generous thing he's done but I'd hate to have to sort the practicalities of that scheme out. I mean does anybody know how this is gonna work?
