View Full Version : Animating the visibility of an object
shoutzager 02-13-2009, 07:30 PM I have a mechanical animation and I would like for parts to "fade" in at different times. The key word is FADE.
I have tried animating its transparency and that works alright except for one thing.... the shadow. When the object is transparent its shadow is still visible. I have thought about doing an After Effects composition but I'd rather have it all work in EI. I am using the latest EI too.
:surprised

I think there was a free shader needed for that FaderX, or you use the Alpha channle or geometry dissolve tab. I don't remember exactly which one was the best solution.

I believe you dissolve out the transmission...

I also believe that you have to go to the Geometry settings in the Difusion tab in the Material editor.

Yup, the geometry attribute dissolves the object well. It is just that the shadow remains constant even when the geometry is not visible.

maybe AG Clipper could help, it is a free shader,
if I'm not mistaken it is from triple D tools, but I can't find the download link any more.
Edit: found it! in Northernlights website, http://www.northernlights3d.com/AG_Shaders/agproducts.html

shoutzager ok i did it try turning the shadow casting of the object you want to off. If you want to create a mask for any object you use the geometry dissolve settings, is being long since i have used EIAS.

Steven,
While this works as expected with Raytraced Shadows it could be done with multiple lights and selection sets using Buffered shadows by cross fading the lights intensity. I still would do it in AE...

Project is here:
