I'm using this technique to create lighting rigs:

I created a light, grouped it to itself, created a new attribute called intinsity, linked the attribute to the lights intensity, duplicted the light and its input connections and now I can control the intensity of all the lights within the group through the new attribute.

Since the lights intensity is a float value this is possible, but is this sort of thing possible for color?

Thanks in advance

I don't see why not. You can create 3 new attributes color R, color G, and color B and link them to the color R, color G color B of the light under its shape node.
These attributes should be in float as well.
