Hi,
I am looking to animate an object going through sand. The object is first completly submerge and them appears through the sand.
I am looking for suggestion of how to tackle this one.
I am looking at Nparticle to do this. But the result doesn't look right.

Thanks.

hey Mirage, i think i would use standart particles and little rock instances and render this out with MentalRay..

Sand is a very fine dust and you can emit it from the ground surface and than with the submerged object as Collision obj going up it should move the sand away...

Hi Heavy

thanks for the suggestion

I currently using lattice to deform the ground and particle to create dust everywhere.
At this stage I am only doing a pre viz job. But I will probably do a proper render of this scene. I am looking into realflow for this.

Cheers,

You may want to look in to Ncloth for the main mesh simulation.

would you explain more about your shot?

Hi, thanks for the feedbacks.

I looked into the ncloth to use as my base mesh for the sand and use the tearable option to crack it open when my object comes to the surface.
I will probably use a mix of ncloth and realflow for the final image.

Scarface, I am just trying to have my object to travel under the sand (like in a desert) then slowly appearing through the sand. All this while my object is translating in one direction. Then when halfway out of the sand it stops.

Use dynamica bullet plugin with balls (array).
If still not happy, use realflow.
I would animate rough direction of where the objects needs to go,
then make "hole" around the path, fill the hole with particles, balls, or whatever, and start the simulation...

1.use ncloth or convert your surface as realwave for the deformation.
2.emit particles from surface and character to simulate the sand.
3.render particles in mental ray maya 2008 with self shadow.
