Hey there,

To celebrate the reprinting of one of Ballistic Publishing's most successful titles, a Collectors' Folio Edition of The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants with a limited print-run of only 100 copies has been specially produced. I had a long chat with Lorne Lanning about the legacy of Abe, the field of Digital Fine Arts and his views on independent creative media.

Click the image, read, DIGG and comments welcome.

I'd really love one of these, but I fear $290 is too rich for my coffee table.

In fact, it could buy a much better coffee table.

I've bought the Soft-Cover of The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants about 2 years ago, because I'd played the Abe's series and was curious about how such a brilliant game came to existance.
I love every single piece of art in the book and can only hope to ever work with such amazing artists.

As for the article:
I love the fact that, with just a few mouse-clicks, I'm able to see what people all over the world are creating. In fact, I enjoy watching digital artwork more then watching a painting on a wall.
As for the artwork itself, for me, having a message isn't a must. I prefer artwork that shows a good story :)

Ditto. I love the artwork, but I hate schemes like this. Just mass reprint the dang thing.

Too steep for me. Never played the game, but I can appreciate the art that's gone into it, great article, I'll have to pass on the book though.

I'm so disappointed! I really love the art that went into the game, so creative and inspiring, but I simply can't spend that money on a book. Maybe sometime in the future it will be printed again.

I'm still waiting for 'The Art of Gex' to come out....

Oddworld seems a bit old to me now.. a lot of this work seems outdated.

I say we mass print your bullet list. Nevertheless, that's a hefty price for something a bit olderish.

Even at $50 I'd still struggle to justify buying this and I loved all the old games...but it does seem to be selling so there are people out there with money to throw around, so who am i to argue.

So along with the 100 Collectors' Folio Edition of The Art of Oddworld Inhabitants there are also reprints of the soft ($59) and hard copy ($69) versions? or are there still soft/hard copies available for sale?

The reprint is of the Hard Cover Edition, however there are a few of the initial run of Soft Covers left and a bunch of the original numbered Limited Editions.

The Folio Edition may seem like a lot but it is super limited and intended for the hardcore collectors :) Its a beautifully made package, if you're an Oddworld fan its definitely worth the money.

I saw the picture and thought to myself 'I do want this', then I saw the price and thought 'I do not want this anymore'.

lol..

yeah anyway damn I think i've only ever played one Abe Oddworld game, and that was probably like the first one.. what on earth are they doing with this awesome character and game world, other than making books out of it?.. Or is it just that they've all been consolized games since? what a shame.

I love Oddworld. I really wanted to Work for Lorne Lanning, His visions has inspited my 3D work ever since the first Odd World.

I manage to have gotten the cheaper edition. I was thinking really hard to get this, but as DuttyFoot mentioned, that's Xbox (or PS3) money right there. I may have to work the budget, though. I really love ODdworld.

Please make another for the new gen systems, xbox or Ps3 I don't care, just make the dame thang. It's killing me.

My Oddworld (not the folio one) arrived in the post today
I remember playing this a bit, mainly watching it being played and wanted my own. Anyone know if Oddworld still exists as a game either for PC or PS3?

You can get Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus from Steam for $9.99 each or $14.99 for both.

Thanks Khendar! I think I've exceeded my 'treat thyself' for the month, but this is a great treat. :)
