Hi
I bought a Biostar M7VIG Pro mobo for my older sister's comp to put an XP1700 (upgrade from P-II 400). My problem is that it wont boot. I keep getting a CMOS Checksum error. I already flashed the BIOS and it didnt work. I also changed the power supply since the one it had was only 100w, now it has 300w.

any ideas??
i need fast responses please, on a deadline.

pop the battery out and put it back in. that should wipe any settings not controlled by jumpers...beyond that I dunno...

remove ur RAM and switch slots. I have no idea if it was coincidence or not, but one time that happened and I had to switch RAM to get it to clear right... but yeah, ur CMOS battery is ur best bet. if not.... RMA... -.-"

Does the checksum error actually prevent you from booting? Is there an option to continue booting? Look again. Whenever I've seen this, it usually lets you keep booting. From what I recall, you can get this if you change your memory configuration. Valkyrien's suggestion might help or if you can get it to keep booting, you may not see the error the next time you boot.

Ok thanks for the help guys

I just hit continue at the post screen and it got fixed up.

now i got another problem

I installed windows xp pro without problems. But i cant install any software, for example, i tried to install Office XP and i get a big message that says "Error 2755. An internal error has ocurred." And the comp does random restarts all the time.

ok Clondike, we're gonna need a complete list of hardware for this comp, otherwise we might overlook something:)

Thanks guys, but I fixed it!
I got curious and i changed the processor with a new one i had for another computer. and it ran perfectly!
A friend of mine explained to me that the faulty processor is a 'creep processor' which means it runs well enough to make you think its working, but in reality its really processing incorrectly, and that causes the bad installations, instability and random boots. Tomorrow I'm getting an XP2000 to put on it. So all will most likely be well... if it isnt you'll see me posting here again.
