3D Short Film Contest invaZion'09 Challenge
Top international jury selected
Bruehl, Germany, Feb 9th, 2009.

The invaZion '09 3D Short Film Contest is heading into the final straight with the announcement of the six international members of the jury: Contestants have until 31 March 2009 to submit their stereo 3D productions. The panel of judges is made up of high-calibre representatives of leading film and animation companies Dreamworks Animation SKG, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Industrial Light & Magic, Trixter, The Orphanage and ImageMovers Digital no less.

The invaZion'09 contest will be hosted by more3D and their sponsors Adobe, Maxon, fmx/09 and Digital Production Magazin. 3D graphic animators, designers and CG artists from all over the world are called upon to send in their short films created using 3D stereo methods, under www.invazion.org; (http://www.invazion.org;) premium giveaways are waiting to be collected. „This jury represents concentrated industry knowledge“, says Ingo Nadler, CEO of more3D, key initiator and co-organiser of the invaZion'09 contest. „We are delighted to have received such positive resonance from the film and animation industry and to have won such high-calibre judges. This will help us make 3D technology and its avant-garde accessible to a much wider public audience.“

Meeting of the industry greats more3D succeeded in winning well-known industry authorities to be on their jury:


1. Shelley Page, Head of International Outreach, DreamWorks Animation SKG, USA.
Shelley Page has worked on over 18 feature animation films to date. Her credits
include 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit', 'Shrek' , 'Antz', 'The Prince of Egypt', 'Shark Tale', 'Madagascar' and 'Kung Fu Panda'.

2. Rob Engle, Senior Stereographer & Digital Effects Supervisor, Sony Picture Imageworks, Culver City, USA
Rob Engle is a leading figure in the field of stereoscopic 3D having supervised the 3-D adaptations of "The Polar Express," "Monster House," "Open Season" and "Beowulf." His extensive experience in live action visual effects include "Stuart Little" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." Rob is currently supervising the 3D release of "G-Force" for Walt Disney Studios..

3. Christophe Hery, Lead Research & Development Engineer; Industrial Light & Magic, San Francisco, USA.
Christophe Hery is responsible for a lot of ground-breaking rendering techniques at ILM. Recently his work helped deliver such memorable characters as the fleshy Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean and metallic Ironman.

4. Nikolaus Lohmann, Executiver Producer, Trixter, Munich, Germany.
Trixter specializes in international animated feature films and TVseries. It became widely known through its collaboration on Seven Dwarfs,The Dragonhunters and HuiBuh among others. He is currently working on Ninja Assassin, the next production of the Wachowski Brothers (Matrix).

5. Ryan Tudhope, VFX-Supervisor, Los Angeles, USA. Ryan Tudhope is a lifelong admirer of digital visual effects and storytelling, two passions that have earned him key creative credits on major independent and studio produced content for over a decade, including Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Sin City, Hellboy and Superman Returns.

6. Anthony Shafer, Stereoscopic Supervisor, ImageMovers Digital, San Francisco, USA.
Anthony is responsible for supervising the stereoscopic production of Robert Zemeckis’ and Disney's "A Christmas Carol" at Imagemovers Digital. Previously, Anthony was involved in key components of the "Nightmare Before Christmas" 2D-to-3D conversion process and production at ILM.

Submissions will be judged in the categories of Stereoscopic Storytelling, effective use of the 3-D effect to tell the story, and Excellence in Visual Arts. The winners will be named and awarded at the fmx/09 being held in Stuttgart, Germany, with prizes valued at over €25,000 in total.
