View Full Version : fixing non-planar faces

Hello,

I've been working on this model for a while and just about finished until i displayed non-planar faces. I've searched the forums and did not find much information on fixing them other than just spending time fixing each one or using the append tool (have tried without much luck).

I am using Maya 2008, and i am just using simple poly modeling. I will be implementing this onto a Source Mod. I want to know what are the problems that will likely happen when importing objects with non-planar faces into games. Or even animations. Also i am trying to keep this as low as i can which is pretty difficult for this particular model.

As you can see from the attachment, about 25% of my model is made up of non-planar faces. I have tried to fix them one by one. But its very inefficient and for every non-planar face fixed it produces another adjacent non-planar face. ive made some tri's but only in bits and corners that will not be seen. There are some n-gons but that i can fix with no problem. I've even googled for solutions but for the most part got explainations and not solutions on non-planar faces.
