Hey,

For you collectors out there. Shrek Kubrick toys will be available next week at NCSX an online jpn import video game store.

What's a Kubrick you ask? I have no idea, other than the fact that these are lego looking figures of characters from movies like the Matrix, Star Wars, Tron, Shrek and so on. I got the Star Wars and Tron sets which is very cool from www.hlj.com another good source for jpn model kits and a good source for 3 view diagrams for cars.

Here are the links

I first found out about these things when searching through MGS sites. Don't really get the appeal...

The appeal..? Well they are mostly stuff to waste your money on, novelties. This set for Shrek isn't the best kubricks I've seen. The Tron set I got had the characters as well as the bikes and stuff, and I am a Tron fan so I was happy to get some collectibles of the movie. I like the MSG kubricks though, thanks for the link.

i don't know, i'm just not seeing how these have such a huge following. is there a high collectibility value in them, or is it just another craze started by our friends on the other side of the earth :D

Yeah, I felt the same way when I first heard that kubricks were sort after collectibles. It does have a decent worldwide following, and most collectibles from Japan are not mass produced, but limited to a few production runs. The Japanese also tend to like cute SD(super deformed) version of popular characters, so these tend to fall there and if you are an anime fan, SD stuff start to grow on you after a while. Medicom which makes Kubricks and other collectibles have a good rep for quality and detail, so their products tend to sell very well.

Aren't these just total copies of Lego though?
Or are they from the same company?
B/c in the world of everyone suing each other, they look remarkably similar.
