Is there anything like meshtools I can use for subdiv in maya?

I acknowledge I'm still quite ignorant of the software, but it seems simple things like edge splits, turns and collapses are more difficult than need be, more so than even the basic max tools. And something like meshtools would just rock.:buttrock:

maya has a split poly tool already, not sure what turns and collapses are, if you give a more detailed discription of what thay do i might be able to tell you if maya has them, or if theres a script/plug.

Check www.alias.com
www.highend3d.com for several poly tools.
Also on highend 3d is a polytools set. Similar to all you miss with meshtools. I missed them at first as well. If you cant find post back and I'll find the links or email the mels to ya.

Maya is the best polygon modeller out there if you ask me.
You just have to understand it and it gets very fast working with.
Download polytools and the Game Plugin at www.aliaswavefront.com. They give you about 20 new polygon tools.
Then search for the XUMI script at highend3d.com. It contains some very usefull polygon tools like Split Loop, Extrude Vertex and Extrude along Curve.
Understand the Split polygon tool. It can do more then you think and is very fast working with.

Jens: thanks, great pointers, looking for the stuff

yeah, I'm sure most of my frustration is due to not knowing maya's approach. hopefully these scripts will help build a bridge for me between how I'm used to doing things and how maya thinks.

thanks, I appreciate everyone's help.:bounce:

Navigating around the Alias|Wavefront web site can be annoying sometimes. =)

Here's the link to the plug-ins page for Maya: Maya Plug-Ins (http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Tmpl/Maya/html/index.jhtml?page=/en/Community/Download/plug_ins/plug_ins_m.html&style=normal)
